Our Heritage

by Belinda Jo Adams

Our ancestors walked this land

Three to four hundred years ago

They worked hard but still had fun

As they watched their children grow.

They begat many heirs

While on their journey here

Papa toiled as he tilled the land

Granny kept the house in fine cheer

Children did their chores

But, had plenty of time to play.

And they thought of their future

When they would have a say.

We wouldn’t be here at all

If not for the ones before

Who came to this great land

From various countries galore.

Trouble in the home country

Either finances or loss

Forced them to brave the vast ocean

For they must venture across.

To make a place for themselves

Not knowing that in the future we

Would enjoy this great heritage

In a country they made to be free.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
